Step 1: Overview & Preparation The step-wise instructions below are for the removal of a typical laptop LCD screen. These instructions are simple to follow and will not take more then 30 minutes to perform. Most laptops will have similar method of screen removal. Similar procedure can be followed in reverse to install your brand-new screen. First, turn the laptop off, unplug its power source, and remove the battery. You will need a Philips screwdriver and a small pointy object such as a thumbtack or a razor. Step 2: Locate Bezel Screws & CoversThe plastic bezel is held in place by a number of screws located at various places on the laptop display assembly. The display assembly is the "top" part of your laptop, made up of the LCD screen, an outer plastic bezel, the inverter, the video cable, the internal metal frame and a set of hinges. These bezel screws are usually on the front of the bezel, but may also be on the sides as well. Step 3: Remove Bezel Screws & CoversRemove the screw covers off the bezel with a sharp object. Then remove the screws beneath the screw covers with the help of the Philips screw driver. Make sure that all the bezel screws are removed. Keep these screws in a safe place and label it properly, since it will be used in the reassembly of the new screen. Step 4: Remove Plastic BezelAfter the bezel screws are off, use your fingers to get between the plastic bezel and the screen. Gently lift the bezel, exerting pressure in different directions until it unsnaps. Start with one corner or side, and gently work around the perimeter of the screen. If at any point the bezel won't unsnap, inspect carefully for hidden screws. Step 5: Back Bezel ScrewsIf your laptop has screws securing the screen to the rear shell, remove them. Then you can move on to the brackets holding the screen in place. While removing your screen, be careful to keep the screws in a safe place, and to note which screws go where. Step 6: Remove Framing BracketsThe next step is to remove the screws from the brackets that hold the screen in place. There should be at least two on each side of the screen. Once the screen is free of the framing brackets, you can usually then lay it flat onto the laptop keyboard. Step 7: Remove Video / Data CableNext, disconnect the video cable from the LCD video connector. Remove any tape that may be holding the video cable to the rear of the LCD screen. There may also be tape toward the bottom of the screen holding the video cable in place. Step 8: Remove InverterFinally, remove the inverter plug from the inverter using your fingers. The inverter plug simply pulls out from the inverter board. In some cases, you may need to first unscrew the inverter to get to the connection. Carefully unscrew the inverter, disconnect it, and replace the screws. This will free the screen from the laptop. Step 9: Assembling The New ScreenFollow the same steps for removal of the laptop screen in reverse order to assemble the new screen. |
